In 1981, the Yomiuri Giants spent several weeks of their spring training in Dodgertown. They participated in at least one exhibition game against the Dodgers. Apparently, they may have played a game against the Atlanta Braves as well!
This cover page of the 1981 Braves Spring Training Program contains the signatures of six Yomiuri Giants. Sadaharu Oh had completed his career as an active player at the end of the 1980 season and was about to begin his first season
as manager of the team. Tatsunori Hara was entering his rookie season and was being billed as the next Oh. Hara went on to win the Central League Rookie of the Year award, and later was elected to the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame.
Both players signed this program cover. So did Golden Player Isao Shibata, who was about to enter his 20th and final season with the Giants. Toshio Shinozuka who was a nine time all star, four time Golden Glove winner and was named
to five Central League Best 9 teams signed this program. Also lesser lights Yasayuki Nakai (Japanese signature) and Kazuhiro Yamakura signed the program. The program cover itself contains a drawing of various 1981 Braves players,
including a large image of Bob Horner, along with smaller drawings of Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Chris Chambliss and others. The reverse of the cover page contains various local advertisements and a blurb about Phil Niekro. The rest of
the program is missing. Signed in red ballpoint pen.
