JF 24b differs from JF 24a and JF 24c in that the player name is printed in Japanese at lower right, and the player's facsimile autograph is also present. The two Hall of Fame members with cards in this lot are pitchers. Motoshi Fujita (top
row left in first image) and Tadashi Sugiura (top row center in first image). Both pitchers were at the top of their games in 1958. Sugiura was named Pacific League Rookie of the Year after fashioning a record of 27-12, 2.05. He was
certainly no one season wonder, as he finished 38-4, 1.40 in 1959 and 31-11, 2.05 in 1960! In 1958, Fujita was enjoying his second year in Japan Pro Baseball, after being named Central League ROY in 1957. There was no sophomore
slump for Fujita, as he easily bested his 1957 performance by pitching to a 29-13, 1.53 record in 1958 while recording a whopping 359 innings on the mound! The other players with cards in this lot include Toru Mori (2 cards--upper row right and lower row right) a slugging outfielder for the Chunichi Dragons who was also a member of the strong 1958 rookie class. He was ultimately a member of five all star teams and was named to the Central League Best 9 team three
times during his 11 year career. Also, there are two cards of Swallows outfielder Yukihiko Machida (lower left and lower center) who was the Central League home run leader in 1955.
