Daikoku wine was produced from grapes grown at the Chateau Mercian, Japan's oldest commercial winery. The owner, Kotaru Miyazaki ultimately had the idea to sell the wine directly from his own shop in Tokyo. His grandson took over the business and added Ocean Whiskey to the company's products in 1946. This poster, featuring the best hitter and most popular player in Japan at the time, Tetsuharu Kawakami, dates from the era of this whiskey introduction. The Yomiuri Giants uniform that Kawakami is wearing in the ad was introduced by the Giants in 1947 and was worn until 1950. Interestingly, this advertisement promotes the products as if they were energy drinks! In any case, the poster is in outstanding condition and is one of only two examples that we have ever encountered.
