This is the only example found to date of this card. While extremely similar in style to the previous four lots, we believe that this card is actually a second prize winner from a different set than the others. It is a bit longer and the legend has
a different font and different text than the others. The top line of Japanese text reads, "Hank Thompson infielder", while the bottom line has "N.Y. Giants" in parentheses. We have never before seen any Hank Thompson card that was
produced in Japan. After a stint in the Negro Leagues that was interrupted by World War II, Thompson joined the St. Louis Browns just two months after Jackie Robinson's debut in Major League Baseball. After being released by the
Browns, he rejoined the Kansas City Monarchs. In 1949, he became a New York Giant. Thompson's MLB career ended after the 1956 season. His post-retirement life was quite turbulent and included three years in prison after being
convicted of armed robbery. Sadly, Thompson died from a seizure he suffered at the age of 43. Blank backed card.
