This is only the second time that we have seen this card. The last time was about 20 years ago! The card is a ticket that allowed the bearer to take part in a prize drawing held at Game 1 of the 1953 Ed Lopat U.S. All Star Tour of Japan, which took place at Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo. The All Stars played against the Mainichi Orions that day, with the Orions pushing across the winning run in the 9th inning to capture a 5-4 victory. The winning pitcher was Japan Hall of Famer, Atsushi Aramaki. Big Mike Garcia was the loser, as Robin Roberts gave up the winning hit after relieving Garcia, who came out of the game with the winning run on base. The front contains the photo of Mathews along with his name in Japanese and the names of the two teams participating. The bottom portion lists the prizes to be awarded, with first prize being a Nikon camera. Lion Dentifrice Co. was obviously a sponsor, as the lesser prizes included toothpaste kits. The reverse contains an ad for Lion Toothpaste in the top portion and an entrance ticket for something called "American Carnival" at bottom. Mathews starred during the series, batting .340 with six homers during the 12 games.
