A Massachusetts native, McManus had a brief cup of coffee with the Kansas City Athletics in 1960. Then, it was off to Japan for the lefty first baseman. In 1962 and 1963 he was a member of the Taiyo Whales, where he hit .236 with 20 home runs over the two seasons. This rare (fewer than 10 in existence) Tachibana Seika card was produced by Hinomaru Caramel. "Mac" is printed on the card in Japanese katakana, rather than his full name. Apparently, this was the name he was known by in Japan.
