This is the first time that we have ever offered this card at auction. Masaichi Kaneda with his Japan Pro Baseball record 400 career victories and 4,490 lifetime strikeouts is undoubtedly the most successful pitcher in Japanese baseball history. The lefthander won three consecutive Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) awards from 1956 to 1958. This card is from the first printing of JF 31, as it has brown text on the back, rather than the grey text of the second printing. Cards from the JF 31 set are quite scarce. The Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide bestows a scarcity factor of R4 on this set, indicating that fewer than 10 examples are known of most cards in the set. The condition is quite nice compared to most other JF 31 cards.
