Kawakami was Japan's best hitter of the 1940s and 1950s. He later became Japan's all time greatest manager, leading the Yomiuri Giants to nine consecutive Japan Series titles. Number 16 (Sebango 16) was a black & white Japanese film directed by Eisuke Takizawa and produced by the Nikkatsu Company. The movie was released in January 1957, prior to the penultimate year of Kawakami's career as an active player. Kawakami played himself in the movie. No other professional baseball players appeared in the film.
While we have seen several other movie posters that promote this film, this is the first one of this style that we have encountered. Kawakami himself is pictured twice on the poster. The back contains considerable text listing various information about the cast, production, Kawakami's life, etc., along with two more photos of Kawakami.
Accompanying this lot is a baseball menko card depicting Kawakami which is an advertisement for the movie.
