A shitajiki is a colorful sheet of plastic placed between a student's writing paper and school desk to prevent scratching the desk while writing. This premium was awarded to collectors who redeemed Kobai Caramel baseball cards for a prize. The front has a most appropriate batting stance pose of the "God of Batting", as Kawakami was known, with a facsimile autograph. The back contains a roster of the 1953 Yomiuri Giants, complete with home addresses of all the players! Can you imagine printing something like that today???
