In June 1935, a baseball team from the Philippines city of Calamba made a 12 game tour of Japan playing various Japanese opposition. They won six of the 12 games. However, the importance of these tickets is not so much related to the team from the Philippines, but more to the two Japanese pitchers who opposed them. The full ticket at left is for the game of June 15th at Koshien Stadium against Kansai University. The Japanese team prevailed by a score of 4-3, with Kansai pitcher Yukio Nishimura (HOF) besting Calamba pitcher, Nelson. Nishimura went on to play Japan Pro Baseball for the Osaka Tigers from 1937 to 1939, compiling a spectacular career record of 54-21, 2.01. Subsequently, he was drafted into the army and killed in World War II. The next day (June 16th), the Philippines team was bested at Koshien by the All Osaka team. The ticket stub at right emanates from this contest. The score was 3-2 and the winning pitcher was Japan Hall of Famer Masao Date, who had completed his career at Waseda U. in 1932. Date had won the Tokyo Big Six University batting title in 1928 with a .469 average, before converting to pitching. He never played pro baseball.

Size: The full ticket is 2 1/2" x 3 3/4". The ticket stub is 2 1/2" x 2 7/8".
