This set was originally distributed with the January 1955 issue of Yakyu Shonen magazine (published in December 1954). Normally, these cards are seen as individual cards poorly cut from the sheets by children. This is one of only two original boxes containing the complete JK 23 set in sheets known in the hobby! Each card contains a colorized headshot image of a baseball player on the front, and a sumo rikishi on the back. Apparently, the sumo backs were used to play the game iroha karuta, while the baseball fronts were to be used in a game involving dice. Each baseball player's team, name and position are printed from left to right in Japanese below his picture.

The following 21 Japan Hall of Fame members are included in the set: Wally Yonamine (Hawaii), Tetsuharu Kawakami, Masaichi Kaneda, Takao Kajimoto (rookie), Ryohei Hasegawa, Noboru Aota, Osamu Mihara, Fumio Fujimura, Shunichi Amachi, Makoto Kozuru, Michio Nishizawa, Kaoru Betto, Atsushi Aramaki, Futoshi Nakanishi, Shigeru Chiba, Tatsuro Hirooka, Yoshio Yoshida, Tokuji Iida, Shigeru Sugishita, Takehiko Bessho, Hiroshi Oshita and Kazuhiro Yamauchi. Also included are former Negro Leaguer and MLB player Larry Raines and Hawaiians Charlie Luis (rookie) and Jun Hirota.

Size: Each card is 1 3/4" x 2 1/2". Each uncut sheet is 7 7/16" x 5 1/4"

Condition: The uncut sheets are Ex to Ex/Mt. However, most cards would be Nm/Mt or Mint if cut from the sheet.
