Only three different cards of this Hall of Famer are catalogued in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition, and only
two types contain images which bear a physical likeness to him. The JGA 38 card is one of them. Both types carry the scarcity factor
designation of R5, indicating that three or fewer copies of the card in question are known in the hobby. Therefore, a maximum of six cards exist
that contain Matsuki's actual image. If you are a Japan Hall of Fame member type collector and require a card of each player (especially a
close-up), look no further. This compact (5' 8", 175 lb.) power-hitting first baseman played for Meiji U. in the Big Six University League before
graduating to the Osaka Tigers of Japan Pro Baseball in the league's first season of 1936. That year, he led the league in home runs and batting
average. In 1940, he was named manager of the Tigers. After two years, he left to aid in Japan's war effort. He returned to manage the Tigers
from 1950 to 1955. He was elected to the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978.
