Kiyohara, who hit over 500 lifetime homers, and Kuwata, one of the best Japanese pitchers of the 1980s and 1990s were teammates on the Yomiuri Giants from 1997 to 1999.
"Giants" is inscribed on the Gene Budig ball. Budig was A.L. president from 1994 to 1999, so we assume that this lot dates from the 1997-1999 period. Both players signed
in black marker and included their uniform numbers (Kiyohara #5, Kuwata #18). Kiyohara was Rookie of the Year in 1986 and was a seven time all-star. He is fifth in all-
time home runs with 525. He surpassed 2,000 hits, 500 home runs, and 1,500 RBIs, which has been accomplished by only five other legendary players. At the age of 39, Kuwata
made his MLB debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2007. It had been 45 years since a player 39 years old or older had made a major league debut!
