A manager during the early years of Japan Pro Baseball and later a popular baseball announcer, Konishi is best remembered as manager of the Central League's first
championship team. After playing outfield for Meiji U., he became an umpire. Then, with the establishment of Japan Pro Baseball, he was named manager of the Dai Tokyo
club. He managed Dai Tokyo from 1936-38. Then he moved to the Dragons, managing during the 1939 and 1940 seasons. After piloting the Shochiku Robins to the Central
League title in 1950, he finished out his managerial career with the Whales (1952-53). Subsequently, he became a popular baseball commentator for the NHK network. Konishi
signed this shikishi in traditional Japanese calligraphy pen at lower left. He added a lengthy Japanese inscription that roughly translates to "It is always spring after
60".
