In 1922, the Indiana University baseball team toured Japan, playing 11 games, mostly against Keio and Waseda Universities, and winning only two. This lot contains two
cards (at left in the image) that commemorate this Tour. The card in the center shows a player from the Mita team. In 1922, this team led by HOF pitcher Michimaru Ono,
defeated Herb Hunter's visiting U.S. Major League All Stars, with U.S. HOFer Waite Hoyt on the mound. The two right hand cards depict a Meiji U. pitcher and Waseda U.
players with an umpire. The cards are generic, but they do depict at least two important events in Japanese baseball history. At this point, we know of no non-generic
baseball cards issued in Japan before 1929. The earlier generic sets are few and far between. Backs contain a grid for the student to fill out his class schedule.
Size: Each card is 1 1/2" x 5 1/2".
Condition: Fronts would be G/Vg, however four of the cards have writing on the back.
