Tachibana Seika cards of the era had a black horizontal contest strip across either the top or bottom. Many collectors felt that this black contest strip was unsightly and detracted from the color player portrait that filled the rest of the front. As a result, many of these cards are seen today with the black strip cut off. This lot features nine such cards. The six cards comprising the top two rows of the photos are 1962 JF 31 cards. The bottom row consists of cards from earlier Tachibana Seika sets. While the JF 31 cards contain player names, the earlier sets do not. However, we have been able to identify all players. Jack Bloomfield is the player depicted at top center. To his left is Hall of Famer Shigeru Mizuhara. At bottom center is Hall of Famer Kazuhisa Inao, the 40 game winner known as Iron Arm. Other players are (top row) Kondoh-Whales. (second row) Miyake-Tigers, Saionji-Flyers and Takabayashi-Giants. (bottom row) Nakata-Braves and Okitsu-Carp.
