Based on the uniform worn in the photo, the picture for this card was taken in either 1958 (Nagashima's rookie season) or 1959. The source of the card is unknown, but the card was most likely originally inserted into a magazine. Nagashima's hitting feats are well documented, but he was also known as an outstanding third baseman. Many likened his play at the hot corner to that of Brooks Robinson. This was most likely a contributing factor to his being named third baseman on the Central League Best 9 team in all 17 years of his career.
