This incredible giant sized panoramic sepia photo was most likely taken at Meiji Jingu Stadium on November 18, 1931. On this date, Herb Hunter's All Stars featuring Lou Gehrig and Lefty Grove defeated the Keio University team 2-0. There are 41 people pictured in the photo, including the entire U.S. and Keio teams. Lou Gehrig appears at left in suit and tie, while his teammates are wearing their team uniforms. Gehrig played in only five of the 17 games of the Tour. Other notables pictured include Tour organizer Herb Hunter, Lefty Grove, Rabbit Maranville, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Lefty O'Doul and Frankie Frisch. This is a glorious photo which would be a featured item in even the most sophisticated U.S. Tour of Japan collection.
Size: Framed to 38 1/4" x 12 7/8"
Condition: The sepia image is light. There is a small vertical tear near the center, which has long-since been mended with a strip of transparent tape. Very minor paper loss is visible far from the player likenesses.
