This extremely rare photo was taken of HOFer Shigeru Mizuhara (1909-1982) while he was a member of the Takamatsu Commercial High School
(Takasho) team.
Mizuhara was a member of this Koshien High School tournament championship team in both 1925 and 1927.
In 1934, he played on the All Japan team against the touring U.S. All-Stars led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. When Japan Pro Baseball began in
1936, he was a member of the Yomiuri Giants. Mizuhara was league MVP in 1942. During WWII, he was captured and spent four years in Siberia
as a POW. From 1950 to 1960, as Giants manager, he led the team to eight pennants and four Japan Series titles. This photo, signed in English,
was part of the Sotheby's Fujita Collection. The photo is dark but the signature remains bold.
