On November 23, 1922, Japan Hall of Famer Michimaru Ono, pitching for the Mita Club, defeated Herb Hunter's touring US Major League All Stars 9-3. Ono pitched all nine innings and allowed just five hits. The visiting all stars included losing pitcher Waite Hoyt, George Kelly, Luke Sewell and Casey Stengel. This was the first time a Japanese team beat a group of touring US major leaguers. In fact, the Japanese didn't win another game against visiting US major leaguers until 1951! This postcard has never been seen before in the hobby. It's a blazer! This may be the best image of Ono in a Mita uniform in existence today. This image was taken during the October 1922 three game series between Mita (the Waseda U. graduates team) and Tomon (the Keio U. graduates). Ono pitched every game against fellow HOFer Goro Taniguchi, winning two of three. This postcard was printed as part of a set with Lot 82.
