This card looks like a typical 1958 "tobacco menko" card of Masaichi Kaneda, but it is considerably larger. Since it has a blank back, and no menko number or paper/scissors/rock symbol, we must actually regard it as a bromide. The glue and paper residue on the back leads us to speculate that the card was originally issued attached to a display sheet associated with an unidentified menko or bromide card set.

In 1958, Masaichi Kaneda enjoyed the finest season of his career, compiling a 31-14 won-loss record, 311 strikeouts and a 1.30 ERA. With 400 career wins and 4,490 career strikeouts, it's no wonder that Kaneda received contract offers from both the New York Yankees and New York Giants.

Blank back card.

Size: 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

Condition: Would be at least Ex, but for a long horizontal crease near the bottom. The glue and extra paper remnants on the blank back are most likely the result of the card having been issued as a prize winner on a display sheets. All examples of this card are expected to have similar remnants on the back.
