This postcard appears to be a companion to Lot 104 in our Auction #63 (August 2022).
The Japanese text on the front of the postcard reads, "Together with Oh". The text at the bottom on the reverse side states that it is an insert in the August edition of Elementary School 2nd Year Magazine. However, no year is printed on the item.
Oh appears to be wearing his 1959 Yomiuri Giants road uniform, but we cannot be 100% certain, as much of the uniform is covered up by the presence of the child. However, a 1959 issue date is truly our best guess. Possibly, one day we will find a copy of the magazine in order to know for sure. We do know that a five yen stamp was to be put on the postcard for mailing, and that five yen stamps were used on postcards in Japan from 1951-1965.
This postcard, like many others of the era, was originally bound into the magazine. This one seems to have been attached at the top border, and was subsequently removed with scissors by an owner of the magazine.
