1968 was one of the many banner years for Shigeo Nagashima. He was named Central League Most Valuable Player for the fourth time in his career. He was named to the Best 9 team as always. He batted .313 with 39 homers and 125 RBI in a 130 game season. His OPS was 1.015. It was just another year at the office for Japan's favorite superstar.
The JGA 137 set has been assigned a scarcity factor of R5 in Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 by Gary Engel, signifying that five or fewer examples of each card in the set are known. PSA has graded three copies of the Shigeo Nagashima card (King of Spades). Two cards, including this one, received a grade of PSA 5, another received a PSA 7. Thus, the card offered here is 1 of 2 with only one graded higher. Neither SGC nor CGC has ever graded a JGA 137 Nagashima King of Spades, nor has either company ever graded any card from the JGA 137 set. Thus, you have an idea of how scarce this set is.
