Masaichi Kaneda was in the twilight of his illustrious career in Japan Pro Baseball in 1968. After starring for most of two decades with the Swallows, he ended his career as a Yomiuri Giant, finishing with 400 lifetime wins and 4,490 strikeouts, records that have held up to this day. Many Japanese baseball historians still regard the left hander as Japan's all time best pitcher.

The JGA 137 set has been assigned a scarcity factor of R5 in Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 by Gary Engel, signifying that five or fewer examples of each card in the set are known. PSA has graded two copies of the Masaichi Kaneda card (2 of spades), and both have received the grade of PSA 6 (Ex/Mt). Neither SGC nor CGC has ever graded a JGA 137 Kaneda, nor has either company ever graded any card from the JGA 137 set. Thus, you have an idea of how scarce this set is.
