Two copies of this card have been graded by CGC, with the other example earning a grade of 8.5. PSA has graded seven of these cards with one PSA 9, 5 PSA 8s and 1 authentic. SGC has ever graded an example of this card.

Hall of Fame shortstop Arky Vaughan made his minor league debut with the Wichita Aviators of the Western League in 1931. He bashed 21 homers while batting .338. The next year, only his second in pro baseball, he became the starting shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates. During his stellar major league career with the Pirates and Dodgers (1932-1948), Vaughan, a nine time all star, batted .318. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985.

Many of the most avid fans of vintage baseball are unaware that Vaughn did not retire from baseball after his final season in the big leagues. In 1949, Vaughan played left field for the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League in 1949, batting .288 in 97 games. After the 1949 season, the Seals toured Japan in one of the first postwar peacetime exchanges between the U.S. and the Land of the Rising Sun. As a result, a card of Arky Vaughan is included in the JGA 144 set. Vaughan did not actually participate in the Tour, so most of the sets commemorating this event do not feature a card of Arky Vaughn.
