This card is a first prize card from the same uncatalogued set as the previous lot. This is the only copy of the card known to exist. It is large, even for a first prize card! The Japanese text printed across the bottom of the card lists Kawakami as a member of the East All Star Team. Since Kaoru Betto (the player depicted on the card of the previous lot) debuted in Japan Pro Baseball in 1948, and the East-West All Star Series ended after the 1949 season, we know that this card emanates either from 1948 or 1949.

There is a variation of this card in which the text identifies Kawakami as a member of the Yomiuri Giants rather than the East Team. Only one copy of that variation is known.

Blank back card.

Size: 8 3/4" x 11 7/8"

Condition: Fair due to edge chipping, creasing, and yellowing upper border, primarily due to dried glue on the card back. The extra glue and paper on the blank back are the result of the card being originally offered as a first prize winner on a display sheet.
