JBR 153 cards are known for their sepia colored decorative text artistically placed around the player images. JBR 153 carries a scarcity factor of R4 in Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0, meaning that between six and ten copies of the card offered here are known to exist.

Michinori Tsubouchi was a 5'4", 130 lb., fleet tooted outfielder who began his career in 1936, Japan Pro Baseball's first season, with the Dai Tokyo team. He later played for the Lions, the Asahi team, Gold Star, the Stars and the Dragons, finally retiring after the 1951 season. In 1946, he struck out only six times in 393 at bats! He was also the first person to reach the 1,000 games played mark in Japan Pro Baseball. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.

It is believed that this set was issued in the off-season between the 1947 and 1948 seasons. There were no Tsubouchi cards issued before 1947.
