The May 1931 issue of Japan's Baseball magazine is notable for its large color image of Babe Ruth on the cover. The magazine is tough to find. This is the first example that we have ever been able to offer. Inside, along with many articles printed in Japanese, is a large photo section in the front. It consists of photos and captions (in Japanese) printed on high quality paper. There is a photo spread of the Chicago Cubs during their spring training on Catalina Island, including a nice image of Rogers Hornsby.

A stunning foldout (see image 3) features the Keio University baseball team from March 29th, 1931, at Yokohama Park Stadium. This expansive insert measures 8 1/8" x 35 1/2" and showcases 18 players, among them the esteemed Hall of Famers Shigeru Mizuhara and Naotaka Makino.

There are quite a number of large photos of the Alameda Kono Team. The Alameda Kono All-Stars were a team of Nisei players from Central and Northern California organized by California businessman, Harry Kono. who toured the Far East in 1931, playing teams from Japan, Korea, Manchuria, China and Russia.

Other major league players and Japan Hall of Fame members have photos in this section as well. Alas, the cover contains the only image of Babe Ruth.

Size: 7 3/8" x 10 1/4". 144 pages.

Condition: Overall-Vg. The photo section is Ex.
