This player card is part of a karuta set produced by Suzuki Publishing in 1959. The set is entitled Nagashima Senshu Karuta.  The majority of the player cards in the set are generic player cartoons. However, nine cards are printed from photographs. Seven of the nine photographic cards feature Shigeo Nagashima. The card offered here is one of them.

On this card (Japanese character NU), Shigeo Nagashima is paired with Kokutetsu Swallows left hander, Masaichi Kaneda. Kaneda, Japan's all-time leader in victories and strikeouts, and Nagashima, possibly Japan's most popular player ever, are not known to be paired on any baseball card other than this karuta card. (Technically, there is a card of the two along with Tatsuro Hirooka, and there is also a card with both players but in two different pictures.)  So, if you have been searching for a card of Nagashima and Kaneda together in the same image, this is your chance to finally land that white whale!
