Over the years, we have offered numerous bromides of Ed Lopat in our auctions.  However, this is the first time we have presented a menko card of Lopat.  It’s a rare one at that!  Fewer than five copies are known in the hobby.

The JCM 126 set was issued in honor of the Major League All Stars 1951 Tour of Japan.  All cards in the set depict players from the Japanese and American teams.  Interestingly, the color player image on the front is repeated on the back, but in blue or brown ink only.

While the All Stars played 16 games in Japan during the tour, Lopat was limited to only one three inning shutout appearance.  However, in 1953, he organized the next U.S. All Star Tour of Japan, where he started three games.  We do not know why he pitched so infrequently in 1951.

Size:  Approximately 1 3/8” x 2 13/16”

Condition:  There is a scratch across the front that runs through Lopat’s cap.  The card is off-center left to right.  Overall—Fair to Good.
