This card is from a set thought to consist of about 2,000
different cards, encompassing the 1948 through 1950 seasons! Since there is no text on the front or back
of cards in this set, it has never been catalogued in Japanese Baseball
Cards Checklist & Price Guide.
Furthermore, of the estimated 2,000 cards, only about 750 have been
discovered to date. In fact, we have
seen this particular card only one other time in our nearly 35 years of buying,
selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards.
Kaoru Betto is pictured here receiving various awards. We know that he was a member of the league
Best 9 teams in both 1948 and 1949. He
was named 1950 Pacific League MVP, but by then he was a member of the Mainichi
Orions. Betto is seen here wearing a Hanshin
Tigers uniform (his team in 1948 and 1949).
The image is small, so it is difficult to see what kind of awards he is
being presented. The female presenter is
not known to us.
