Mamoru Sugitaya was born in 1908 in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. After playing for Waseda U. in the Tokyo Big Six University League, he joined the Japan All-Star team that played against Babe Ruth and the U.S. All-Stars during the 1934 Tour of Japan. He later played Japan Pro Baseball for the Eagles from 1937 until 1941.  He also managed the team in his final season. Sugitaya was a jack of all trades on the field. He was a pitcher-infielder-outfielder at Waseda, and a third baseman-outfielder in Japan Pro Baseball.

This is the only JRM 42 card ever authenticated and graded by PSA.  Therefore, it is 1 of 1 at this level, with none graded higher.
