According to the text on the card front, the player on the right is Hachiro Mitani, a third baseman for Keio University of the Tokyo Big Six League.  The player on the left is Sanjiro Umeda, a catcher/first baseman for Meiji University.  Umeda appears to be rounding third and heading for home, and the legend at the bottom is roughly translated as “home run fierce attack”.  Apparently, Umeda has just homered during a Keio vs. Meiji Big Six League encounter.

Hachiro Mitani attended Keio U. from 1926 to 1930.  Earlier, in the summer of 1924, he played in the summer Koshien High School championships.  From 1936 to 1939, Mitani was an umpire at Koshien.  In 1941 and 1942, he was manager of the Nankai team of Japan Pro Baseball.

Sanjiro Umeda attended Osaka Meisei Middle School.  He then attended Meiji University from 1922 to 1926.  We have been unable to unearth more information about his life.

1926 was the only year that Mitani attended Keio and Umeda attended Meiji.  However, the card actually dates to 1930.  On the back, a Keio team Members List is printed.  The only year in which all nine players listed on the Members List played together was 1930.  Therefore, the image on the front is apparently related to a Keio memory.
