All three of the players who signed this shikishi (traditional Japanese signing board) were members of the 1960 Yomiuri Giants. Each was at a different stage of his career. Takehiko Bessho (signature at upper left) was in his final season, having already won 300 career games, and was on his way to the Hall of Fame. 20-year-old Sadaharu Oh (lower left) was in only his second of 22 glorious seasons with the Giants. Catcher Shigeru Fujio (upper right) was in his eighth season of 12 with the team. The Giants finished second to the Taiyo Whales that year, but over the following 15 years, the team would enjoy more success than any other in baseball history.
Early shikishi with Sadaharu Oh autographs are seen far less often than his later career and post-career shikishi.
Black marker signatures.
Size: 9 1/2" x 10 3/4"
Condition: Autographs 7 to 8 out of 10. Shikishi--some darkening, staining and foxing which does not affect the signatures.
