Each pack of JF 55 Jintan Gum contained one plastic card in addition to the gum. The front of each JF 55 card contains the player's facsimile signature below the team flag and above the player's surname, uniform number and position. Each player had cards issued in various colors. The front designs were identical for the different colors, while the back designs were slightly different depending on the color.
Four players, including Katsuya Nomura, had special, limited edition, red and orange cards produced with black & white photos embedded in the card in place of the team flag. Seen here is the Katsuya Nomura orange JF 55 card with photo image. The card is not commonly seen. In fact, this is the first JF 55 photo card of Nomura that we have ever offered to the public.
Katsuya Nomura, a catcher, belted 657 home runs during 27 year career (1954-1980). He was perhaps the Pacific League's greatest pre-Ichiro player and certainly the best catcher in the history of Japanese baseball. He was selected to the Best 9 for 13 consecutive seasons. He won the triple crown in 1965. After retirement, he went on to become a very successful manager.
