JCM 46 is one of the earliest Japanese baseball card sets to contain actual player photographic images. Each card contains a large, sharp player image, along with the player's surname and Tokyo Big Six University League team affiliation. JCM 46 has always been the most highly regarded prewar Japanese baseball card set. Here we have a high grade example from this classic issue which came right from a pack that we opened several years ago.

A player blessed with tremendous speed, a strong arm, and a great baseball mind, Takeo Tabe played all over the diamond at Meiji University. After graduation, he joined the Dai Nippon Tokyo team, the precursor of the Yomiuri Giants, for their 110 game barnstorming tour of the U.S. He stole a remarkable 105 bases on the Tour. However, Tabe quit the team prior to the Giants' joining Japan Pro Baseball due to perceived poor treatment. He later joined Japan's war effort and was killed in Okinawa in 1945.
