The Japan Pro Baseball 1960 All Star Series of three games included participation by several American players from the Pacific and Central Leagues. Most prominent among them were pitchers Joe Stanka and Glenn Mickens, who posted records of (17-12, 2.48) and (13-10, 2.23) respectively that season. Two other American player selections were Mike Solomko and Carlton Hanta. All four of these men are seen in the wirephoto offered here. Interestingly, they are seen sharing a copy of The Sporting News.

Obviously, it's a posed photo, since Mickens (left) seems to be looking at the photographer rather than the magazine. Stanka (second from left), Solomko (second from right) and Hanta (right) seem much more convincing. In Game 3 of the 1960 All Star Series, Glenn Mickens was the winning pitcher, and Mike Solomko homered. However, we do not know whether this photo was taken on the day of that game.

The photo is from the John Rogers Archive, and contains a certification of authenticity from The Sporting News on the back. Also seen on the reverse side are the printed wirephoto copy and the word "Japan" handwritten in black pencil.
