This set was issued as an uncut sheet in the January 1977 issue of Elementary School 1st Year magazine. This lot consists of the entire insert, including all cards plus the title banner and the instructions for playing a card game. This is one of only two copies of the complete insert known to the hobby.
The nine players included in the set are (top row, left to right) Toshimitsu Suetsugu, Sadaharu Oh (HOF), Shigeo Nagashima (HOF) (middle row, left to right) Dave Johnson, Isao Harimoto (HOF), Shigeru Takada (bottom row, left to right) Shigeru Kobayashi, Clyde Wright, Isao Shibata (Golden Player/Meikyukai).
The 1976 Japan Central League Champion Yomiuri Giants were led by Harimoto, who batted .3547, losing out on the batting title by .0001! Oh socked 49 homers while batting .325. Kobayashi went 18-8, 2.99, losing the ERA title by .01. Johnson batted .274 with 26 dingers. Wright was 8-7, 3.32. Nagashima, having retired as an active player after the 1974 season, piloted the Giants to the 1976 league title.
Size: The uncut sheet is 6 5/8" x 10 1/8". Each card is 2 1/3" x 2 3/4".
Condition: The uncut sheet has several creases which affect most cards. However, the Oh and Harimoto cards do not have creases and would be Nm/Mt if cut from the uncut sheet.
