The sake was flowing on the night this 8" x 10" photo was taken! The 1922 U.S. All Star Tour of Japan has been largely overlooked, especially in comparison to the 1931 and 1934 Tours. However, the 1922 Tour did include Hall of Famers Casey Stengel, Herb Pennock, Waite Hoyt and George Kelly.
The team played 17 games against top Japanese opposition, winning 16 times. The U.S. team, consisting of 13 major leaguers, was organized and accompanied by former player Herb Hunter. Hunter and the entire U.S. team plus wives can be seen clearly in this photo. The image is sharp and clear. The photo is in top condition.
