This bookmark card contains space on the back for a student to fill out his or her class schedule. It was included as a gift to purchasers of an issue of Manga Oh (Manga King) magazine in 1958. The text on the front describes Inao as a player "receiving honor of the highest degree".
In 1958, Inao was superhuman. He won his second consecutive Pacific League MVP award with a 33-10, 1.42 record including 334 strikeouts in 373.2 innings pitched. He appeared in all of the final nine games of the regular season to help the Lions to capture the pennant by one game. Battling a 104 degree fever at the start of the Japan Series, he appeared in six of the seven games, winning four of them. Naturally, he was named MVP of the Japan Series as well. Inao's incredible career statistics featured a won-loss record of 276-137 with an ERA of 1.98.
This bookmark card is truly rare. We have never seen another.
