This large card contains the same image as the regular JBR 87 card of Oshita, but is much larger and cropped differently. We believe that it was awarded as a second prize winner card on a display sheet for the JBR 87 set that hung at the store where JBR 87 cards could be purchased from hanging bundles. If an ordinarily blank backed JBR 87 regular card contained the number 2 stamped on the back by the manufacturer, the card's bearer was then allowed to choose a second prize card from the store's display sheet.
The "Man with the Blue Bat", Hiroshi Oshita was raised in Taiwan. He entered Japan Pro Baseball in 1946 following a stellar career at Meiji University. He was the most feared hitter in the early years of the Pacific League. Oshita was named to eight Best 9 teams during his career. He batted an astounding .383 in 1951. Blank backed card.
Size: 4 5/8" x 7"
