Following a stellar career with the Hanshin Tigers as one of Japan's great all time pitchers, the man with the "Zatopek" pitching style was named manager of the Tigers in late 1987 for the 1988 season. This jewelry set was produced in
honor of the occasion. The front of each item of jewelry is designed in a baseball motif with "Tigers 11" emblazoned on it. (11 was Murayama's uniform number.) The back of each item bears the inscription (in Japanese) "Minoru
Murayama Manager 10/16/87". The inside of the blue felt jewelry case is inscribed "Award, Hanshin Tigers manager, Minoru Murayama." We believe that this jewelry set was a gift for team executives and other dignitaries. This is
definitely a high quality set of jewelry.
