In 1922, Herb Hunter organized a U.S. Major League All Star Team that toured Japan. The team included Hall of Famers Casey Stengel, Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock and George Kelly. The All Stars played 17 games against top Japanese opposition, winning 16 times. This photo was taken at a dinner party hosted by the Osaka Mainichi newspaper on November 8th. The event was held between games 10 and 11 of the Tour while the team was in Osaka. The food must have agreed with the All Stars because they won their game the next day by a score of 12-3 with Waite Hoyt getting the victory.  In Hoyt's previous outing, he was the losing pitcher in the team's only defeat during the Tour. Interestingly, the photo image appears to be a reverse negative, since the Japanese text in the background appears backwards.

Size: 12 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition: Foxing along the printed paper with descriptive text and along the bottom border of the cardboard frame. The cardboard frame exhibits minor damage along the edges. Also some minor foxing on the tatami mat in the photo. However, the photo image is quite sharp and the area with the player images is in outstanding condition.
