Several youth baseball magazines occasionally bound uncut sheets of baseball cards into issues of the magazine. This was generally done as a New Year's gift to purchasers. Yakyu Shonen (Youth Baseball) attached cards to their December 1949 issue that featured participants in the 1949 San Francisco Seals Tour of Japan. The cards were attached in three, 16 card sheets. Two sheets depict Japanese stars who opposed the Seals on the Tour. The third sheet consists of four Japanese players and 12 members of the Seals. Seals in this set include Leroy Jarvis, Con Dempsey, Al Lien, Cliff Melton, Gene Brocker, Reno Cheso, Dick Lajeskie, Jim Moran, Dario Lodigliani, Roy Nicely, Frank Shofner and Jackie Tobin. Japan Hall of Famers include Victor Starffin, Bozo Wakabayashi, Tetsuharu Kawakami, Tokuji Iida, Hiroshi Oshita, Michio Nishizawa, Katsumi Shiraishi, Makoto Tsuruoka, Shigeru Chiba, Fumio Fujimura, Takehiko Bessho, Hideo Fujimoto, Makoto Kozuru, Noboru Aota, Hiroshi Nakao and Michinori Tsubouchi. Here's your opportunity to obtain the cards in their original state, still bound in the magazine.

Size: Each card, if cut from the sheet, would be 1 11/16" x 2 1/2". Each of the three uncut sheets is 7 1/8" x 10 1/8", which is the same size as the magazine. The magazine has 122 pages.

Condition: Two sheets contain surface creasing affecting five of the 48 cards in the set, including Nakao, Lien and Jarvis. There are some yellowing spots on the backs that affect several cards. However, many cards would be Nm or better if cut from the magazine. The magazine itself has strong binding, and the interior pages are in nice condition, but there are a number of chips at the edges of the front cover.
