In our 32 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese Baseball Cards, this is only the second time that we have seen an example of this giant size card! The first time was in 1996. It is a first prize premium from a display sheet
produced by the Maruichi Co. The text in Japanese at the bottom reads "Yogi Berra". Berra was a participant in the 1953 Ed Lopat All Stars Tour of Japan.
Berra's smiling countenance indicates that he must have enjoyed the Tour. Yogi
participated in all 12 contests against Nippon's finest, batting .386 with a whopping six homers. The All Stars tore through the Japanese opposition winning 11 games and losing only once.
The card originally had four very thin, white
borders (each border was approximately 1/8"), but they were removed by a previous owner of the card. Nevertheless, the winner of this lot will possess one of only two copies of this card known to exist. Blank backed.
Size: 6 1/4" x 9 3/4"
Condition: Authentic. The card as it exists now with missing borders would grade Ex to Ex/Mt.
