The 1931 U.S. All Star Tour of Japan featuring Lou Gehrig, Lefty Grove and five other HOFers was a great sensation in Japan. Everywhere the team went, there were formal dinners, sightseeing tours and meetings with national and local
dignitaries. Team members were often presented with items that commemorate the Tour. One of the strangest presentations had to be the gift of over sized baseball gloves to Mickey Cochrane and Lefty Grove, pictured here. Crossed U.S.
and Japanese flags seem to be embossed on the gloves, along with text referring to the Tour. Wirephoto copy is also included in the lot. A large stamped area on the back attributes the photo to Underwood & Underwood, a pioneer in the
field of news bureau photography. This is truly a unique image.
Size: 6 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Condition: There is creasing at upper left, but the image is quite clear. Also, a small surface tear at the center of the upper border. The back exhibits tape residue from previous attachment to backing.
