Hochi Shimbun (Newspaper), founded in 1872, is a Japanese daily sports newspaper. More recently, the name of the paper was changed to Sports Hochi. In either 1951 or 1952, Hochi Shimbun offered a set of three large size baseball cards of Yomiuri Giants HOF players to its readers. The blank backed cards each include facsimile player autographs. Only a handful of these Hochi Shimbun cards have entered the hobby thus far. This lot contains the card of Takehiko Bessho. Takehiko Bessho was Japan's premier pitcher during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He twice won 30 or more games in a season, baffling hitters with a variety of off speed deliveries. During his career, he won two MVP awards and two Sawamura (Japanese Cy Young) awards. He won 310 games and had a lifetime ERA of only 2.18. Blank backed card.
