The 1965 Nankai Hawks were Pacific League Champions, coasting to a 88-49-3 record and a 12 game advantage over second place finishers, the Toei Flyers. The team was led by 1965 Triple Crown winner and Hall of Famer, Katsuya
Nomura (autograph at upper left). The pitching staff was led by Kiyohiro Miura (bottom right) who led the league with a microscopic 1.57 ERA. The manager was HOFer Kazuto Tsuruoka (top right), and the team also included venerable
Hall of Fame member Tadashi Sugiura (bottom left), a previous two time 30 game winner. Battling injury that year, and beginning the downhill arc to his career, he still managed to pitch to a 8-1, 2.19 record in only 111 innings. The green
text on the shikishi indicates that it was signed on October 25, 1965, five days before the Japan Series began. Signed in black sharpie.
