Japan's "God of Batting" appears on this sheet of 15 celebrities published by Heibon Magazine designed to be used as a giant sized bookmark. Kawakami is portrayed in his 1953 uniform. Actors Alan Ladd and Ann Blyth also appear on the sheet
which also depicts various Japanese entertainers. Since Ladd's landmark movie, Shane, was released in Japan on October 1, 1953, we are guessing that this bookmark was produced in late 1953 or early 1954. In any case, it's the first
example of this bromide sheet that we have ever encountered. Blank backed.
Size: Sheet--2 1/2" x 5 1/4". Individual cards--5/8" x 1".
Condition: Heavily creased in the upper portion, with an uneven border at the top. Corners are Ex. Therefore, single cards, if cut from the sheet would range in condition from Poor to Nm/Mt.
