The National High School Baseball Tournament at Koshien Stadium has traditionally been regarded of the most important event of the Japanese baseball season. The finals of the 18th tournament, held in August 1932, featured 12 teams vying for greatness. The champions of this tourney were the players from Chukyo High School in Aichi Prefecture.  In 1932, Chukyo was in the midst of three consecutive championships, comparable to winning the NCAA Basketball Tournament for three years running. The Chukyo team, led by ace pitcher and future Hall of Famer Masao Yoshida, prevailed in the final game by a score of 4-3 in 11 innings over Matsuyama High School. Matsuyama was led by future HOFer Masaru Kageura who ultimately starred for the Osaka Tigers in Japan Pro Baseball. Unfortunately Kageura was killed in action in the Philippines in 1944. This original large panoramic photo commemorates the opening ceremony of the championship finals. Due to the large size and the fact that it was stored rolled up, the winner of this photo will receive it rolled up, as shown in the second lot image.

Size: 49" x 11 1/4"
